Workshops for the Professional Development of teachers and administrators
CURRICULUM
What do you feel your teachers and/or administrators need in terms of continuing professional development? Every center, school, learning community is different and have their own unique needs. Please read through the workshops listed here and choose one OR we can do a NEEDS ASSESSMENT for your situation and create a a workshop just for YOU and YOUR staff!
1. Process Art Through the Curriculum- Infants, Toddlers and Preschooler
Art comes naturally to children. They begin with seeing it and feeling it, textures, shapes, and colors. They then progress to discovering that they can reproduce the textures, shapes, and colors on their own. In this workshop, participants will learn about this natural progression, as well as learn how to encourage children to engage in their own way of creating THEIR ART.
2. Children’s Engineering-STEM or STEAM or STREAM
Science, Technology, Engineering, Math-WOW, that’s a lot to cover!!! BUT, it all connects! Find out how to look at this (sometimes overwhelming acronym) as a patchwork quilt rather than 6 separate areas of study. Suggested time for this workshop is 3 hours. OR this workshop can be offered over a few days, or partially on-line.
3. Emergent Curriculum
What is Emergent Curriculum? It’s the natural way to teach based on developmental ages and stages as well as the children’s understanding of their authentic life. We all gravitate toward learning that will lead us toward success based on what we *KWHL.
4. K-W-H-L for Infants through Preschool
What does KWHL mean? Know, Want , How , Learn. This workshop will help ECE professionals (teachers, parents, administrators) understand and implement education that connects with children.
5. “The Project Approach”
The Project Approach is a way for students to completely engage in the learning “unit” that is being explored in the classroom. The ‘project’ does not have to only stay in ONE classroom, it can be shared with other classrooms, age/grade levels, and even shared via technology with other classrooms in the community, or anywhere, for that matter. It’s a very holistic experience for all.6. Learning Through Dramatic Play, Music, and Movement.
7. Early Literacy Development for Young Children
What do experts say about helping young children love reading? READ! READ! READ! to children (even in utero)! This workshop will cover what kinds of books to choose for your classroom, how to read a book to children in order for them to engage, learn, and have fun.
8. Math for Toddlers through Preschool
Number sense starts very early, even infants can recognize that they have ten little fingers, and ten little toes! As children go through the ages and stages of early childhood education, addition, subtraction, shapes, sizes. This workshop will cover lots of ideas for introducing Mathematical concepts that are fun for young children…and teachers.
9. Addressing behavioral issues with successful Classroom Management
Children’s Behavioral issues in the classroom seems to be a topic that everyone needs to discuss and explore. How do I handle physical and verbal aggression? How do I handle social/emotional aggression? How do I handle children who exhibit excellent behaviour? What are some of the “tricks of the trade” that a teacher can utilize consistently and on a daily basis. It’s possible to have a well run, happy, fun, classroom, it really is!!!
10. “5 Magic Words” for Caregivers and Educators of Young Children
Creativity, Discovering, Investigation, Exploration, Imagination. This workshop will explore how to honor these words and understand that how we all learn by weaving them together to reach everyone for an incredible teaching and learning experience.
11. Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP)
This workshop will address social, emotional,physical, and cognitive development of children from birth to 5 yrs. Appropriate is the critical term.
12. J.O.Y (Just Offer Yourself) Professional Growth and Development for ALL teachers.
All teachers have unique gifts and talents. Learn how to capitalize on YOUR gifts and share them with your students and colleagues.
13. Observing Young Children for Authentic Assessment
How do you Know that your students KNOW what you’ve been teaching? This workshop will offer an opportunity to discuss and explore various assessment techniques, especially authentic assessement.
